Puppy, stop the clock days and working gap years.
There’s a new edition
to the family! Well…technically she’s not mine but we see her ‘mum’ so often it
will be like she is!
Today after a
pointless day at school (more on that later), mother and I spent the rest of
the day with this little cutie.
This is Misha and
she’s the newest addition to, technically not my, family. She arrived to her new yesterday and already got rule of the house! Just over a month ago the same friend of the family’s got two little kittens.
This is Millie and George, aren’t they just adorable!
Let’s just say there
is always lots of cuddles when you are at their house!
Keep an eye out as
they will be occurring a lot more on this blog in the future.
Does anyone else’s
school do stop the clock days?
For those who don’t
know, stop the clock day is when all normal lessons stop and each year spends
the day doing different activities such as going to the zoo, having fake
interviews and a variety of team building activities. For my year we either had
a day at home doing independent study or go to a workshop on writing personal
statements. As someone who hasn’t decided if I want to go to university yet the
day was pretty pointless.
I honestly don’t
understand the point of these stop the clock days as many of the skills learnt
can be taught to us in form time, instead of doing weekly quizzes which are
even more pointless, or often get covered in assembly’s anyway. It’s not that I
don’t appreciate them giving the day to helping us but if they cant supply us
with the information on when and where we are meant to go, have enough room for
everyone or even give us resources and machines that work, is it really that
surprising that the majority of people don’t turn up to them?
As I work in the sixth
form café at break and lunch I had no choice into coming into this pointless
day, which I often pretend to be ill on or suddenly have a ‘hospital
appointment’ on those days. As bad as that is I personally find it quite
impressive that I’ve managed to come up with a different excuse for each stop
the clock day. 1 point to Megan, 0 for school!
Although I did find
out about a course called Year In Industry. Year In Industry is what it says on
the tin. It’s a business that helps you get a 9-12 month paid apprenticeship
anywhere in the UK, they mainly focus on engineering but have widely varied this
now and will help you get an apprenticeship in many different fields with lots
of big and small named businesses. Some businesses thay have links with include
Shell, L’oreal and South West Water.
If interested in
taking a year out before going to university this is highly suggested as you
get paid experienced and they even have discounts that allow you to still go
travelling just by doing a placement. I personally love the idea and I’m highly
thinking about doing.
So that was my
adorable but pointless day. Sorry for the bad cat photos, they just never stay
still!
Talk to you later x
