Slimbridge Wetlands
This weekend my parents and I went to Wales
to see my nan as well as take her to Slimbridge which is a Wetlands area for a
friend of the families, Janet’s, Birthday (She’s 90 odd and lives alone so this
was a nice treat for her). As both Janet and my dad are a bit obsessed with
birds they went off to find out more about each bird whilst taking more
professional pictures whilst my mum and nan walked around feeding the birds
from our hands.
You can buy bags of bird feed from them for
£1 and they even have, within the park, a massive box full of seeds allowing
you to top your bag up. Still not sure if it was meant to be there but either
way it was helpful.
We were at Slimbridge for about 3-4 hours
and it didn’t drag nor got boring which was great for me as someone who really
isn’t that bothered about birds. They have a café and a restaurant supplying
hot and cold food and drink. For some reason we went to the restaurant, which
was PACKED, and the food was pretty expensive but still very nice with a lots
of variety.
There are so many different areas for you
to sit and get closer to the birds and there are even areas for people to have
picnics which is really sweet. Many of the indoor watch areas had books that
you would read and discover more about the birds along with having binoculars
for those who didn’t bring their own and want a proper bird watching
experience.
As someone who doesn’t really find watching
birds interesting or fun I still really enjoyed the day and it was surprising
to see the wide range of ages that were there from young teens with their
girlfriends/boyfriends to OAP’s with their grandchildren.
Have you ever been? If you are in the area
I would highly recommend it.
Talk to you later x
