What would you sell your soul for?
How much would you sell your soul for?
In Dr Faustus he sells his soul to the
devil for thousands of years in hell in exchange of 24 years of magic and
Mephistopheles as a servant. One of the questions that my English teacher asked
us is what would we exchange for the possession of our soul. Many said millions
of pounds whereas others like myself said that we wouldn’t do it.
This got me thinking though. If we weren’t told
what would happen to our soul after we gave it away would we have said
something else. We currently don’t know what happens when a person dies. Many
believe nothing, some believe you get reborn as something else, have a new life
in heaven and many other things. If we were told that we could sell our soul
for whatever we wanted not knowing what would happen would we raise or lower
our expectations?
We don’t know what is going to happen so is
it worth the risk of getting our ultimate dream or would this make you more
worried? Once the deal is made there is no going back (well that’s what Faustus
thinks anyway) so is there any point in worrying after its done? Its like
everything you do in life, once you’ve done it you cant go back and change it
so should you make big life gambling decisions everyday as you don’t know what
could happen after?
Personally I still wouldn’t sell my soul,
not even to become Luke Hemming’s wife but that’s just me. Of course then you
need to go into the conversation of what is a soul and even if we did talk
about that would it impact your decision?
Random thought of the day.

Talk to you later x
